Taxation as everyone is fully aware is a complicated subject and taxation of Non Residents is the hardest thing to understand whereas the risk involved is very very troublesome since the status of a person depends on the days resided in India in which circumstances the world income earned in India and abroad is taxable in India. During my stay in India I had been dealing with such cases for a pretty long time. People rarely understand the statute and are losers in the long run.
The persons moving abroad either leave certain assets in India or assets are created by virtue of transfer of money from abroad or from inheritance. Their tax and financial matters remain in a suspense. The concept of Deemed Citizen of India is also not known to them. I will try to explain the concept of incidence of tax on Non Residents and the precautions to be observed.
